Challenge / Goal

A s part of the EU co-funded H2020 project: GrowSmarter, teh city of Stockholm aims to pilot energy retrofitting measures in three different buildings zones with three different building types to demonstrate and validate the effectives of major refurbishment measures. In this Use Case the focus is on residential building from 2007 with private condominium:Brf Årstakrönet, with 56 dwellings. The city Installation of different technologies and tools for control and smart energy management in the private condominiu. The aim of this measure is to control and secure energy savings from different energy consuming facilities in the building.

Solution

L&T(formerly Veolia)) has provided an adaptive technology for a central control system for heating. Temperature sensors inside the building in a number of apartments and a traditional outdoor sensor uses weather forecasting. The system generates a more stabile indoor temperature and benefit better from internal loads and heating from the sun.

This measure include:

  1. Adaptive control system for heating
  2. Indoor Temperature control in each apartment
  3. Measurement implemented for: a) Hot water circulation losses b) District heat energy c) Electricity d) Cold Water
  4. Thermographic control
  5. Smart control of ventilation in garage: a) PPM b) Temperature, humidity
  6. Electrical hub installed
  7. Electrical battery storage installed
  8. PV Cells and control system installed

The refurbished apartments now have an adaptive control system for heating, indoor temperature meters in all apartments, smart ventilation control of the garage, water saving equipment, installation of electricity meters, district heating meter and water measurement equipment.

Citizen participation

Regular meetings with board were held to discuss results and next actions. An action plan for energy management was communication with the board. The tenants were informed about initial trends of savings in energy and money to increase motivation.
